I used to love going down to the harbour in bad weather when I lived on the English Channel. Now I live beside a Norwegian east coast fjord, very sheltered and a tide range of less than a metre.

@MonaReeves86 Not where they come from. That's a number of different places much further away. The Channel and specifically the area near Calais is just where they cross in to the UK. In my opinion a lot of it would die away if the UK were better organized. Illegal immigrants and asylum seekers in many other countries, such as Norway where I live, are kept under much stricter control and applications processed a little more promptly.

I remember an evening sea like that in March twenty years ago. I stood on a balcony for hours and watched it, thrilled by the power and ferocity, but not wanting to be any closer.

There's so much calm to be found (for me) in the sound of turbulent water, which also brings about a serene scent. Especially so if met with a gentle mist.

@antonioioio For me it has a sense of power especially on a day where it’s overcast. I appreciate its natural force, the fact we know more about space than the sea. The awesomeness and vast expanse as I look out from the land humbles me, yet as it’s waves come and lap the shore then ebb I’m given a certain feeling of calmness and serenity.
