To think it took nature eons to artfully create those sculptures.
Joshua19842022 · 36-40, M
@PatKirby right it's so beautiful honestly and the fact that it happened all on its own

Drip, drip, drip for hundreds of thousands of years...

@Thinkerbell it saddens me that some of the caves here in Illinois were touched by people and now the won't drop and can never grow again..at least that's what the guide said

@Thinkerbell
Exactly! The stalactites and stalagmites are a temporal wonder all their own. Such natural beauty!

Fascinating! I wonder who figured out the cave's capacity for harmonics? That "stalagpipe" emitting that fine tone is a wonder all its own. The organist works that stalagnote into the piece very well. Thanks, this made my day!

@PatKirby People were apparently plinking out tunes with mallets in the cave as far back as 1880.
Leland W. Sprinkle designed and implemented the console setup in 1956 over a 3 year period.No way would he be allowed to hammer and slice his way through such a unique mineral formation today,so this is as unique of a lithophone that we'll ever hear.

While entranced in the caves of Luray,
Pat Kirby encountered one day,
A DREADFUL old troll
Who appeared — straight from Sheol —
And frightened poor Patrick away. 😳
