When a teacher says "my kids" they mean "the kids i teach"/" the kids in my class".
Its the same as "my desk at work", "my class", "my office", "my boss"...etc.
Its totally normal, has been for decades .
Id be more concerned if they said "those kids" or "the kids"...itd reflect a sense of detachment and lack of any sense of personal care towards their students .
