How do you clear your mind so you can fall asleep?

I always have so many thoughts and emotions swirling around my head, I don’t know how to turn them off.

At different times I've tried pretty much every one of these suggestions

Currently I have a totally dark room with a white noise machine going, I find it helps me blank my mind.
