We live in a constitutional Republic. We have elections and choose our leaders.
@FreeSpirit1 So does Russia. Vladimir Putin is an elected president.

@flipper1966 so? What’s your point? You asked a question and I answered.

nope !

Russia and the United States differ significantly in their political systems, economies, and cultural norms. While Russia operates as an authoritarian, centralized state, the U.S. is a federal republic with decentralized power. Economically, the U.S. has a vastly larger and more diverse economy than Russia's, which is heavily reliant on natural resources
@FreeSpirit1 True, but having elections doesn’t guarantee democracy. Russia has elections too, yet most people wouldn’t call it a democracy — because they lack free opposition, free media, and real checks on power.

@flipper1966 I didn't reply to argue with you, I answered your question
@FreeSpirit1 No arguments. But the fact is the U.S. now operates as a competitive authoritarian or outright fascist state, not a democracy. Elections may still occur, but they are increasingly hollow — institutions have been captured, opposition is criminalized, and state violence is directed at citizens. As one scholar put it:

“Trump has achieved in seven months what took Putin years”

You're entitled to your opinion. You believe we live in a democracy. You're entitled to your opinion and thanks for answering my question. Have a good weekend.❤

We never lived in a democracy no matter how much you try to spin it

We still have three branches of government each with different powers ... checks & balances

Congress is getting too powerful but you seem to be focused elsewhere

What democratic institutions has the current administration dismantled ?

The current administration cant be reelected

The government shutdown:

The Democratic Party, including House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, is blocking legislation until Republicans agree to their demands

The Republican-led House and Senate, including House Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune have demanded that Democrats first agree to fund the government before negotiating on other issues.

I don't think Trump is responsible for this mess
