I am from the UK. And from the little I have seen on here and even through social media and the news is that. Despite whatever message he may have been promoting it has inflamed and enraged people.
I personally have tried to do a little research into the things he said. Especially in regards to the Martin Luther king civil rights act, he was stating that the act was too broad.
He basically said it's allowing people from other movements to use the act as a way to vindicate what they want.
I will say it left me feeling really confused and hurt and I stopped digging further.
Do I agree with this? Personally I don't know enough about it to say yes or no.
Do I think by him saying this would upset people? yes.
And unfortunately this is the point...
In this situation that is all we should be looking at and trying to understand.
Assassinations are terrible and I think this is an example of why gun control needs to be looked at.
But there's also the standpoint that when you stand up and vocalise strong opinions you should be prepared to face the harsh reality that you will be challenged.
I think there are a lot of people that feel him having the platform he did was actually creating a divide, and an angry one.
The world needs more harmony not more chaos.
It seems like the more people fight for acceptance the further apart we grow.

@Mellowgirl You really nailed it with
I don't know how we recover from this when a significant number of people want you to accept their refusal to accept others. The tolerance of intolerance favors those who preach division.

@NativePortlander1970 from the way you started that response I didn't even bother to read it further. The aggression in your text wasn't needed.

@Mellowgirl gun control is not the issue one side of the debate does not respect life with any reason abortion till birth. They think if you dont agree with them it is hate speech. All of charlie kirk discussions are online watch the full discussion not small clips taken out of context.

@Mellowgirl
That was literally his thing. He wasn't trying to dictate or impose, he had his beliefs and views that he was prepared to defend and discuss with anybody and welcomed opposing arguments from what I've seen of him. (Yes, so he could 'defeat' them', but in a fair and proper way).

@NativePortlander1970 wow, you've got a lot of time on your hands!

@helsbels but that doesn't stop what he was saying being inflammatory. So whether he challenged it or not that didn't take away from the fact he caused a lot of upset. And that's the point I'm making.
helsbels · 31-35, F
@Mellowgirl Fair enough, I just don't think there's a 'but' that lessens or justifies his murder 😄 By all means find him objectionable or offensive, you don't have to like him. I absolutely respect the right for people to be entirely infuriating to me, but that's on me to accept - no cause for silencing the person.
Mellowgirl · 31-35, F
@helsbels did I say I condone his assassination? No, I think like many other Normal humans beings we see that as extreme.

Those two paragraphs there just read to me like 'Assassinations are terrible but...' Not saying you condone it, but like a lot of people, there's an implicit shrug of indifference. What is that second paragraph for if not making excuses for what happened. Again, not attacking or criticising you for it, just my interpretation and feelings about it.

@Mellowgirl are they not currently locking people up for posting memes that are found offensive. What happened to your free speech? Not violent memes not memes that are racist just freedom of speech and people are being arrested in the u.K

@helsbels I'm not sure if you're pushing to try and get me to apologize, but my point is very clear.
We have politicians here in the UK that have said things they stand by, they have had eggs, milkshake and tomatoes thrown at them. That statement I made would still apply.
It's not nice to have someone throw something at you, perhaps if it were America they would have been shot.
I don't condone the use of guns, food or any other form of violence. But just like a street brawl it doesn't start out of nowhere, someone's provoked the other person and they lost control.
Now this person has been caught, he will trialed and sentenced. That should offer some sort of justice to the family, unfortunately it won't bring back the father of those children left behind.

@dale74 people are being arrested for protesting and supporting what the police deem terr***st groups.
I haven't seen anything about being arrested for memes.
