Ironically, in the 1950s the prevailing mindset was more like today’s MAGAs (who are trying to return to that bigotry). But then Superman’s words were considered very revolutionary. 😳

My active duty USAF career was just a few months shy of 30 years of continuous service. I served with others of all races, creeds, religions, national origins, sexual orientations, etc. True Patriots come in all varieties and flavors of all of those things.
Sadly, so do bigots.
Get to know the individual and their heart. Never judge a subset of society by one member.

@KunsanVeteran I served with a LOT of Filipinos during my Navy days. Those men were recruited in the Philippines and most all of them acquired American citizenship. It was an honor to serve with them and would have no qualms with serving with them again. As they advanced they married and their families settled state side. Their children went on to become scientists, attorneys, doctors and one has a mid level position in the State Department. They're more patriotic than many Americans.

@Crazywaterspring Well said! BTW, my wife is a Filipina.

It's true that American governments (duly elected) took some time to attempt to take this from fluffy feelings to create Law that reflected it, but at least it was an ambition and those who worked against it were considered 'on the edge' by most. I have the feeling that amongst the 'triumphs' of the MAGA revolution is to re-write history expunging such sentiments as these and be proud of excluding the 'other' from being 'an American'.

The neighbors on either side of us are from Texas, Russia, Pakistan or Afghanistan (I can't remember which), Spain, and Albania. All are true Americans.

Agreed!

Not in the least. Hateful destructive rhetoric.

@SomeMichGuy I agree with the poster from the 1950's. I'm saying MAGA values are 180 from that. To think that anyone that disagrees with orange man will have their citizenship revoked? That''s way beyond McCarthy.
