Fear mongering and trauma bonds.

I was talking to my mother yesterday and I always get annoyed because then she starts with the whole fear-mongering thing. With everything that's happening in the Hispanic community I know she might be paranoid but every time I go out anywhere she always tells me to watch out because immigration might round me up I am an American citizen I told her that's not possible. She gets her information from other people or tick tock videos where they are saying that they are deporting American citizens she's afraid they might get me just because I look extremely Mexican. I am going to be fine I'm not in a illegal and plus I have no criminal record. The whole of fear mongering thing is just very annoying to me.

Your mama is worried about you. I know it can be irritating but she means no harm.
@disturbedchicken Both of you are right in a way. Those things really are happening but she is letting the fear get to her.

@SinlessOnslaught yeah, it just irritates me. She lets the news get to her too much.
@disturbedchicken Literally everyone in my family does that, including me.

I just try to keep in mind that none of this stuff is new. It's synthetically sensationalized.

Shes telling you that because she loves you. And she's afraid for you. She knows that simply being an American citizen is not some shield that is automatically going to keep you safe.

[@Angel unforgiven] yeah, she's afraid of me being profiled based on my appearance. She's hearing stories of Hispanic Americans being questioned. But I'll be fine.
I think the fear mongering thing is born of fear and creates fear.
Seems a good thing to stay away from.

@PhoenixPhail it's just annoying like nothing like that is even happening. I'll be fine.
