Facts seem to be dead in America. It seems to be all about the "vibe".
Don't even have to be a historian...
I was always confused how Germany could let Hitler gain so much power, but Trump has shown we're no better today...

@sstronaut It actually does make sense if you consider how uninformed the average person is. Things were good under Trump. That's because he inherited Obama's economy, but the average person doesn't know that. Then covid came along and wrecked everything. Trump failed to handle covid, so it's his fault, but the average person doesn't know that. All the average person knows is that now Biden is president and things are bad, that's it.
Trump says things that would be political suicide for any other politician, Republican or Democrat. Yet he somehow gets away with it. Trump has openly said he wants to be a dictator. He wants to suspend the constitution. He has said grossly crude things about women. He made a death threat against an American General Mark Miley. And he instigated an attack on the Capital Jan 6th, 2021. Plus he's a convicted felon, with 34 convictions. How can someone with that record be president?!

@badminton An unrenlenting barrage of lies and hate restored him to office. Average Americans have become too unlearned and gullible.

@SW-User Simply put, Trump reached both white and nonwhite working class voters more effectively than Harris, and many of those people came to view the Democrats as condescending and elitist.
Understanding this is understanding exactly why Trump won.

@RedBaron Harris' mistake was concentrating too hard on womens rights and not enough on the other problems. She might as well have been pushing for free tampons.

GREED...caused by decline of ethics and morals...and power of global corporate world

I'm not. Nixon led the way. Reagan was even worse.
BohemianBabe · M
@hunkalove Nixon and Reagan were both terrible presidents, especially Reagan, no question. But neither of them threatened democracy as an institution. And when the corruption was blatant enough, there was pushback from both parties. Republicans turned on Nixon when he was too open with his corruption, whereas Trump has been ten times worse and the Republicans actually like that.
Yes, we've had bad presidents in the past, but Trumpism is something America has never delt with before. I honestly don't know if America will still be a Democracy in a few years.

Perhaps our Republic will weather the next 2 years and the Middle will realize the danger from t and the right.
