Western Europeans have a very biased view of America. We aren't afraid of "losing" our country, that's ridiculous.
People are afraid of changes being pushed by various political factions and some people choose to take that to the extreme and speculate the worst possible outcome.
It's weird that someone from the UK would question Americans obsession with themselves.
