Why is a voter ID an issue

Serious question. Why is a voter ID of some sort an issue? I need an ID to board a plane. An ID is required to drive a car, buy beer, leave the country, open a bank account, etc.

I am not supportive of voter suppression. But I do want honest voting without fraudulent voters.

Some people cannot get ID. My mother and aunt could not get ID's because of no driver's license and incorrect birth certificate. They have voter registration cards so they could vote.

@exexec wouldn’t a voter registration card count as proof of citizenship though?

@AthrillatheHunt It doesn't count as approved ID.

@exexec I’m not following you too well. I thought you wrote the registration cards allowed them to vote. So even though it’s not an approved ID it’s still valid to vote though?
It’s like an ID JUST to vote. Where other forms of ID have multiple uses.

@AthrillatheHunt No. Under the proposed law, as I understand it, some form of state issued ID or passport would be required, in addition to voter card. If a voter registration card is sufficient, then I have no objection to the requirement.

@exexec no offense but I’m not going by “as I understand it” as an answer I can believe.
I’ll do my own HW on that.

@AthrillatheHunt I would expect a wise person to seek authoritative answers. That is exactly why I wrote "in my opinion," since I am not an expert. I see very few (if any) expert opinions on SW, so all posts, including mine, should be taken with more than a bit of skepticism.

@exexec I’m not a doctor or beltway pundit, but I play one on SW. lol
