Presidential dignity

I watched a YouTube video on the opening of President Bush’s library yesterday - he was always one of my favorites. In addition to Bush, presidents Clinton and Obama were there. All three men were cordial and dignified, and it hit me just how far we have fallen. Have courage America - we are down but we’re not out !!!

Yes we have fallen. But 20 January we will begin to get back our dignity :)
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@melbeacher I do not envy Biden and Harris, they have more than their share of work cut out for them. First they have to deal with the crazies who have convinced themselves that the election was 'stolen," even after numerous court decisions to the contrary. The country is a mess for many reasons, far worse than it was 4 years ago. I pray for their success.

@samueltyler2 At least they won’t be doing their best to tear it down. I’m hopeful anyway.

@Jill1990 I am praying with all my heart and soul!

Yes... those men were more part of the norm. But not a one of them delivered to the American people with the consistency that President Trump has. That's a simple fact, and it's what will dominate the histories. Not that he was rude or mean to people. I mean, look at the way he was treated, and his supporters.

I swear I really need to read this post
Blocked for praise about McCain

WE can make some changes come Nov 3rd. We are a great nation we have just forgot how to be able to disagree and to have some honor and respect for each other. We should all set an example of how to be trust worthy and honorable. Our current leader just doesnt have those characteristics.
I felt the same way regarding the three presidents who spoke at Rep. John Lewis’s funeral. Trump couldn’t even be bothered to pay respects when Lewis was lying in state in the Capitol Rotunda.
When asked why not, Trump said, “he didn’t come to my inauguration”.🤦🏽‍♀️

Lewis was the last representative of the “big six” of the Civil Rights Movement, which had included Martin Luther King, Jr (whom Trump claimed to admire). So Trump snubbed not just the man , but what he represented.

@Jill1990 I don't mind that people distrust the 'swamp', because under both parties vested interests thrive.

What I don't get is how anyone thinks Trump is changing that when the evidence is clear he IS swamp, and who is really benefitting.
I don't get how anyone can listen to him talk for 5-10 minutes without recognising his psychological retardation and the banter of a con man.
I don't understand how anyone believes what he says when it takes 5-10 minutes to discover verify that he's talking crap. Lie after lie after lie...
Jill1990 · 31-35, F
@Abstraction trump isn’t the sad part - it’s what’s happening to our country. How can millions vote for him?
Abstraction · 61-69, M
@Jill1990 That was the point of my questions. How can millions vote for him? It's a post-truth media/social media environment. Have a look the 'Clinton is a rapist' response. Predictable - point out something wrong with Trump, brain splutters and whirs and 'Yeah, well Clinton and Obama...' That's called avoidance and missing the point.
Yes, you are correct. Forgive me, but it is wonderful to see a younger person seeing how civility has fled from public discourse...
Jill1990 · 31-35, F
@SomeMichGuy it’s such an abrupt change - it knocks you down. Putin has already won a few victories.
@Jill1990 The foes of democracy have used fear as their primary way of assaulting us...fear of ppl superficially "not like 'me' "...so as to take advantage of uncertainty and lay the blame at the door of anyone who differs from us, in ever-shrinking circles.

It is odd that self-identifying "Christians" do not realize which of the "two Kingdoms" is ruled through fear, intimidation, hatred, selfishness, division/coming apart...and which is ruled through openness, helping, love, selflessness, coming together. Darkness & Light...hmmm
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
that's all a charade but I guess people like when others lie to their face
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
@Jackaloftheazuresand You hate your country enough to say that?

Be cordial and dignified as we bomb the hell out of the Middle East. There's no change where it counts.

From your lips to God's ears. If #45 wins another term, we are doomed!
DeWayfarer · 61-69, M
I'm afraid both have died out as concepts for the most part. Sure there is some that follow those two concepts, yet as you can see even on this post decisiveness and polarity seems to still rule.

Perhaps sometime in the future most people will see what they are really doing. 😞

BTW See senator McCain's funeral as well.
Jill1990 · 31-35, F
@DeWayfarer McCain was a really great American - to see him degraded by the current elite made me really sad. I hope things get better, but everything now is hate.
Zeusdelight · 61-69, M
All it takes are individuals to change their actions, not be puppets of the behaviour of their respective Politicians. I wonder which individuals here will be brave enough to do it?
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@Zeusdelight not painful truth who spits out the same lies that the far right pro-fascist does

@waleskinder Yeah, that may be true, but I think we’re near. I’m optimistic about next year. Hopefully we can make some progress.

I am really worried that the damage done will not be easily reversed.
Jill1990 · 31-35, F
@samueltyler2 done, and still being done

Do you mean president Bush who started a war that led to a million dead Iraqis?

@SW-User who mentioned anything about war with anyone. The post was about PRESIDENTIAL DIGNITY. I’m talking about the president being dignified - get it?
