On May 15, 2025, the Nottoway Plantation in White Castle Louisiana, caught fire and burned down.
I’m glad that nobody was physically harmed during the fire, but I’m not going to lie; I can’t say I’m sorry about the fire itself.
As what the internet refers to as an ADOS (American Descendant Of Slavery), I could understand preserving these homes "in the name of history" if that’s what was being done here, establishing a museum for example, that discussed American Slavery and what was done to people under that system.
But this wasn’t that. Nottoway was a resort, a glamorous venue where people held parties and weddings, basically celebrating the oppression, from the perspective of the oppressors. The entire plantation system was a heritage built upon hatred and racism.
Based upon that, again, while I am grateful that there was no injury or loss of life, in regard to the destruction of a former slave plantation, I say, burn, baby, burn. 😞

They should've all been razed immediately after the war, and all the lands appropriated by the states for other uses
Then people who are too far removed from the war and are just daffy in general wouldn't even have the opportunity today to do utterly stupid things like have their wedding party pose inside actual slave cabins like it is somehow pleasant or cool (this is one of our plantations in my area, where Lindsey Graham held an after-hours fundraiser a couple of decades ago no less)
@BlueGreenGrey Exactly. There’s no money for reparations yet some of the same families still own these plantations and are making fortunes exploiting the history.
