The Laser Kiwi Flag

This is the Laser Kiwi flag, originally titled Fire the Laser. The flag features a New Zealand tree fern and a kiwi shooting a green laser beam from its eye.

It was one of 10,292 designs submitted in 2015 for consideration as a new national flag of New Zealand. The design didn’t make the cut when New Zealand’s Flag Consideration Panel made their initial selection of proposed alternative flags. Two referendums on the matter were held in 2015–2016, with a majority of the voters ultimately deciding to keep NZ’s existing flag.

Despite its failure to make it through the official consideration process, the Laser Kiwi flag caught the imagination of many. It lived on in Internet memes, as fodder for comedians, and through its use in commercial products and banners at sports events and concerts.

There is something kind of cool about it, I think, but maybe not so much as that beautiful country's actual national flag. 🙂

@Piper I think so too. It's whimsical and imaginative. Not hard to understand why people like to have fun with it. I do like the country's current flag, though. It's obviously a more serious design, and more befitting for a national flag.
