Does he know that Christians pay some extra tax in certain parts of Germany? 😬 I think it's enough if you're baptized and if you want to be freed from it, you have to explicitly ask the church to give you a document saying that you are not the part of it or something like that.

@CrazyMusicLover That's messed up but it's far from what he said.

@CrazyMusicLover German church tax is to do with there system. I mean in Germany if you're a Christian you'll pay it to help with the upkeep of church services, schools, paying priests wages and a shed load of other stuff within their communities. If they don't want to be a part of them communities they can opt out.
Which sure might seem crazy too us because we're not Christians living in Germany who seem happy to pay this money for the benefit of their own communities. It's not a tax that goes straight into the governments back pocket either it get distributed to whichever religious groups are part of that scheme and like I say that's just the way they work.

@AdaXI The thing is that you didn't consent to be baptized because you were just a baby then and they automatically charge you this tax just because you are in their system and you have the extra work to apply to be exempt from it. At least so I heard. I'm not German, I just read that they asked even expats if they were baptized and when they said yes, they automatically were considered to be the part of the church and pay the tax. I have no idea if they verify it in the home country though.
