Ukrainian people don't want Africans on their trains or buses but want help from African American soldiers? Weirdos...

It really wasn’t that long ago that African American soldiers risked their lives in segregated troops. My father came back from Korea, after Truman integrated the military but still had to ride in the back of the bus and go home to a segregated neighborhood. I’m sorry to hear that the Ukrainian people feel that way because there are people here I consider friends. But racism is still very much a fact of life. In Russia, too.

It's been interesting to see how public opinion has sort of whitewashed a lot of what goes on in Ukraine. They're not the choir boys they're being made out to be. Clearly they deserve support for what's happening. But that doesn't erase how they roll.

wtf? beggars can't be racists

hope thats wrong and its because they think the Africans will be safe under the Russians but not their woman if left behind ,not talking about the bombing but Russians did terrible things to all the woman in captured countries in ww2 ,,,hope thats the reason and its not skin .
@Barny52 The Russians treat Africans the same way, I hear. And what about African women ? They’re restricted, too, aren’t they ?
REMsleep · 41-45, F
@Barny52 No there are literally many many videos shot inadvertently by Ukrainians showing the racisim and many more videos shot by Africans themselves.
Part of it is racist and part is nationalism.
They have refused to allow train and bus evacuation rides to Indian students and African students/immigrants.
Partly its because they feel that in a crisis they need to take care of the Ukranians first and foremost so if it comes between a family of Ukrainians or a group of students they push the students back because they aren't Ukrainian and they dont see them as part of the country.
These actions have been widespread according to reports with Africans walking miles because they were refused every train.

no such thing as "African American soldiers"

There is no hyphenated Americanism in the military, you're either American and nothing else or not an American at all...
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
So you paint all Ukrainians with the same brush because of the alleged actions of some. I bet you don't feel the same way when people say black people are violent because of actions of some black criminals.
@Subsumedpat I got the impression (and perhaps I’m wrong) that they’re being kept off of trains and buses, which aren’t owned by individuals . So your analogy doesn’t quite fit.
Subsumedpat · 36-40, M
@bijouxbroussard Bus owners does not equal "The Ukrainian people"
@Subsumedpat But a public transportation system represents a country or city more than individual criminals do, right ? The segregated transportation system certainly represented the American South here.
Well, I never assumed they were angels. Didn't know they were that racist, though.
@LordShadowfire Yeah, I admit that caused me to step back a little. I still don’t agree with the Russian invasion and there are people I like whom I want kept safe. But considering I could have been protesting in front of City Hall with others, I kind of stayed off the bandwagon.
