Why is Taylor Swift so popular?

Because she sings good and has emotional intelligence. Next question.

Bland, basic, contemporary, boring, average, and popular. She's as American as McDonald's.
@SumKindaMunster It seems like there has always been a market for that kind of music. It just seemed to be better in the past, but that might just be the tendency to think the music we grew up listening to was better than the crap kids listen to now.

I heard one song by Swift about a friend who was being abused at home, written from the perspective of another child, that I thought was well done.

@SumKindaMunster I think her music is good (if generic) pop.

Any Swiftie will tell you that it's all about the lyrics. What Taylor does that's different, is write about emotions in relationships in a nuanced way that is relatable to women and isn't cliche. It's not my type of music but I think that is the reason why she is the world's biggest star and why her fans support her like a political party.

There are lots of pretty women with poppy tunes.

@SumKindaMunster And about as nutrious as McDonalds too. Great metaphor..😷
@whowasthatmaskedman Who would be an example of a "nutritious" pop musician? I mean someone performing today.

@LeopoldBloom Pink? A positive person, "Real" and a message in her music..😷

@Burnley123 @whowasthatmaskedman @LeopoldBloom Interesting comments from old men way outside her demographic. I think it really shows her domination of pop culture this year, she really blew up. Philly practically shut down the 2 days she was here for her concerts.

How does she line up with other pop stars? Madonna? Britney Spears? Beyonce?

How does she compare to other "serious" female song writers? Tori Amos? Fiona Apple? Kate Bush? Sarah McLaughlin?
