@uncalled4 He was away most recently for about ten years. I read that John was originally a teenage fan of the band, to whom he was introduced after the death of Hillel Slovak.

@bijouxbroussard Yes, I believe he may have even taken lessons from Hillel. Weird history of another band called What Is This around the same time--used to play their songs on my college radio show.

@uncalled4 No, I understood he didn’t meet the band until after Hillel died. But John did say he was influenced by his playing style and strove to be a "flashier" version of him.
