Modern v "Old School" singing in opera

I've been going through some videos on the subject. TRying to hear the differences. After a few goes, I think I am beginning to tell the differences. Here is one example....

It’s an interesting video, and in some cases there were simply more skillful singers. But it’s hard to compare sopranos to contraltos, a recording versus a live performance, with variations in acoustics. And it’s also preference. A couple of the performances the videographer thought were better weren’t, really—the singers were just better known.

@bijouxbroussard I see what you mean. I think the point he was trying to make was the difference in how they performed a role. 🙂
