Say whatever you want about KISS, but Ace Frehley was the most legit musician in that band. His fierce yet melodic guitar work formed the backbone of KISS’ music during their heyday and a case of him being the best songwriter among the group can be made. Of the 1978 KISS solo albums, his was the most critically praised. Even outside of KISS, while he was far from commercially successful, his solo music continued to be well-received, with many agreeing that it’s better than any of KISS’ newer music. Frehley wasn’t just in it to make money selling absurd amounts of merch, he was a man with a passion for music.
