To me the gatekeeping is just childish.

I am old enough that people were whining about Shania Twain not fitting a stereotype and labeled her a "pop star" and she has outlasted most of her critics and could even disappear and come back and still sell more records than her critics in the 90s.

He is one reason that I can't listen to modern "country." I'll stick with Willie and his boys and girls.

I have a hard time not seeing the country genre as racist and exclusive because of the way some fans have tried to dismiss black country artists. 😞
