i have never been outside of the contiguous US because i don't like flying because i go completely deaf on aeroplanes. and i've tried every trick in the book. i can't imagine being deaf for 12 or more hours straight. maybe it's time to drive to Mexico 🤷🏻‍♀️
@SW-User Mexico or a cruise. It's neat that theoretically, you could drive all through the Americas
SW-User
@Ozymandiaz i've never aspired to go to Canada or South America. i have researched cruises to places i'd like to see before i die. you need to devote quite a bit of your vaca to sailing. i also never aspired to go on a cruise, but i would go cargo for sure

@SW-User Can you pop your ears?
SW-User
@hunkalove yes, and it equalizes the pressure just fine, but they don't stay open at altitude. i've been told i have child-sized Eustachian tubes

@SW-User I've been deaf in my left ear since I was 11 but I can get my ears to pop open. I live in Colorado and I have problems in the mountains.
SW-User
@hunkalove yeah, it's weird. my ears don't hurt or anything. i might feel slight pressure and need to pop them but it doesn't let me hear. it was such a shock the first time. my hearing goes away gradually as we ascend, then comes back gradually as we descend

@Ozymandiaz Yep, you can practically drive from near the North Pole to near the South Pole

@SW-User I know folks who've gone 'cargo' up to Alaska.... they had a wonderful trip.
SW-User
@JollyRoger sounds perfect for me, when i read about it. small cabin below, 3 squares, bring own snacks and entertainment. just would like a traveling companion to enjoy the destination. everyone likes to fly
JollyRoger · 70-79, M
@SW-User Are you Irish then? (I looked at your profile). When we went it was on a cruise ship. There was much entertainment, the meals were great and very nice people to meet. Ours was a small ship (Celibrity line, "Century" ship).
SW-User
@JollyRoger only by ancestry am i Irish 😌 i'm an American.

i'm not a much of social butterfly, really. and it actually appeals to me to be on a less-populated ship, yet a big one that weathers the sea more assuredly

@SW-User How about a barge ride on the Rhine or Danube? Same thing for accommodation only more things to watch on the shore as you cruise by! Again... We didn't do it by barge, but the long-boats are a wonderful experience. There are 'group' types of tours that would cater to someone who doesn't want to socialize all the time but who wants some company. We've met and traveled with single people on several of our trips.

@JollyRoger you're giving me some great ideas! thank you 🤗
