I wouldn't join any fan club (unlike my colleague who encouraged students to call him "Prof. Snape") but I read the first book or two with my kids and enjoyed the first movie.
I will probably read the recently published Yiddish translation of the first volume.
I don't think J.K. Rowlings' controversial statements about gender stuff have any bearing on whether the books are good or not. I love Dostoevsky and he was an outright antisemite.
