“America” – Neil Diamond (lyric video)

[media=https://youtu.be/FkzbPWODQSk]
“America” is a stirring anthem written and recorded by Neil Diamond for the 1980 film, The Jazz Singer. The song honors the many immigrants who left their home countries to seek a better life in the U.S.

Diamond’s inspiration for “America” was the experience of his immigrant grandparents, who emigrated from Eastern Europe in the early 1900s and settled in Brooklyn, New York.

The recording was released as a single in 1981. It reached #1 on the US Adult Contemporary chart and #6 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

I created the video posted here and used the longer, soundtrack album version of the song.

I was so in love with Neil Diamond for a while in my teens 😄

@DearAmbellina2113 Understandable. He's a great singer-songwriter, and I think he's always had a lot of sex appeal to women.
I really enjoy Neil Diamond’s music, too. And over the years I discovered songs I liked that I hadn’t realized were also his: Red,Red Wine, A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You, for example.
The video’s perfect. 😊

@bijouxbroussard Yes, and he also wrote one of my favorite songs performed by the Monkees: "I'm a Believer". I believe you once did a post about that.

Thank you, much appreciated. This is my first lyric video. Wasn't easy and took a while to git 'er done. 😎

immigration used to be more innocent back in the day.. these days its more sinister in some cases unfortunately and the democrats are in denial of reality

@GoFish Interestingly, this song was totally non-controversial when it was released. I don't think that would be the case if it were released today.

@Rutterman i think everyone likes immigration it's just being misused these days by the wrong people namely hostiles

Awesome song, Danny. I'd heard it before, of course, but never knew the back story. Thank you for that. Given that back story and the current political climate, I wonder how high it could climb on the charts today? 😔

@sarabee1995 You’re welcome. I love Neil Diamond’s music and this is one of my favorite songs by him. Happy to share the back story on this one.

That’s a good question. The song was non-controversial when it was released as a single in 1981 and was widely regarded as a patriotic anthem. I’m not sure to what extent that would be the case if it were released today.
