Glenn Miller, born this day 1st March in 1904...

Thank you, BBC Radio 3, for playing this this morning! Recorded in 1939, 'Moonlight Serenade', Miller's 'Theme tune', was a hit in the UK in the postwar decades, charting in 1954 and again in 1975. Real musicianship and real quality! The closing bars are really special too. The melody just seems to take to the air and fly away into the distance...

I have an RCAVictor Limited Edition Volume 1 "Glenn Miller and His Orchestra" boxed set of 10 records, 45 EP. It belonged to my in-laws.

@exexec Plenty of good things in there! EPs were a 'thing' in the fairly early days of vinyl. You could buy part (or indeed, all) of Sinatra's 1950s albums in the form of EPs with four songs on each. Sinatra was on Capitol at the time.

He always puts me "In the Mood."
