Rick Davies RIP

Sad to hear the news that Rick Davies has passed away.

I first heard Supertramp in 1974 and instantly fell in love with their music and bought all the albums.

Crime of the Century is still my favourite of theirs just a brilliant album throughout every track.

Thanks for the memories, the inspiration and the music Rick.

"Crime of the Century" is a brilliant album! Perfectly bridging the gap between progressive rock and pop rock. I love it, especially "School", and the title song.

@helenS... And Hide in your Shell and Asylum etc etc 😂😂😂

@helenS That news was so surprising! You described the album perfectly! His voice and keyboard work were such a huge part of the soundtrack of my life. He will be missed, but his songs live on. 🎶✨

@helenS Me and my friends used to listen to that over and over when it came out! Certainly one of the better acts of the era. Not only great albums but no strangers to the singles charts.

@supersnipe Yes exactly, that's what I meant when I said they bridged the gap between prog and pop. I think their very first albums were prog only, but I'm not sure.
And I have a weak spot for "The Logical Song", for personal reasons...

@helenS indelbly stamped the second album had a more rock n roll feel. Supertramp the first is very Canterbury sound like even though thru weren't from there. Light folk/prog

@helenS That's one of those songs that marks a time and place in my life. As I noted earlier they came to France in 1979...The 'Paris' gig appeared on Sky Arts a few years ago.

@OldBrit I love Canterbury prog! Caravan "In the Land of Gray and Pink", and (for whatever reason) especially the song "Golf Girl", love the language they use, it's so very posh...

@supersnipe Seven years before I was even born... 😏

@helenS seen later versions of Caravan a few times over the years living close to Canterbury. Back in the day I occasionally drank in Richard Coughland's pub in Faversham.

@helenS seek out Surely and Try Again from the first Supertramp album.

@OldBrit Thank you, will listen to it, and then tell you what I think (or how I feel about it). 🌷

@helenS I look forward to hearing your views
