June 7th 1969 Blind Faith
June 7th1969
Blind Faith, a supergroup featuring Steve Winwood and Eric Clapton, play their first show: a free concert at Hyde Park in London.
The show is part of a festival that also includes performances by Lulu, Long John Baldry, Richie Havens, Donovan and several others. The crowd is estimated at 100,000, although that number is likely inflated. It's quite a leap into the deep end for Blind Faith, who are not happy with their performance ("I felt once again that I'd let people down," says Clapton).
It turns out to be the only UK performance for the group, who tour Scandinavia and then the United States before calling it quits, leaving behind one album.

Following the shadows of the skies or are they only figments of my eyes?
And I'm feelin' close to where the race is run
Waiting in our boats to set sail, sea of joy
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Ooh, once the door swings open into space and I'm already waiting in disguise
Or is it just a thorn between my eyes?
Waiting in our boats to set sail, sea of joy
Oh, oh, oh, sea of joy
Havin' trouble coming through, through this concrete, blocks my view
And it's all because of you
Ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh
Or is it just a thorn between my eyes?
Waiting in our boats to set sail, sea of joy
Sea of joy
Sea of joy
Sailin' free
Sea of joy
