“The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” – The Walker Brothers

On this day in 1966, the Walker Brothers’ cover of “The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore” (it was originally recorded by Frankie Valli) made it to #1 in the UK. It reached the top 10 in at least six other countries and peaked at #13 in the US.
According to one source, this is regarded as a “death song” in the UK because of an incident that occurred on March 9, 1966. That's when notorious gangster Ronnie Kray shot and killed rival gangster George Cornell in a London pub. The song supposedly was playing on the pub's jukebox during the shooting and a stray bullet hit the machine, causing the record to repeat the line "The sun ain't gonna shine anymore…anymore…anymore...” while Cornell lay dying a few feet away.
Don’t know how much of this I believe. The part about Kray killing Cornell in a pub is true, but I’m not so sure about the rest of it.
