RIP Dickey Betts

Died of cancer. Also had chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. One of the best guitarist. A founding member of the Allman Brothers Band and his band - Great Southern. You will be greatly missed.

I heard about this today.
Brings me back to the time I met him at an outdoor concert, didn’t recognize him but her was coming down the hill behind me heading to the stage and he was carrying a violin case so I ask him if knew how to play it as he passed by and he said yup, sure do! So I said to him have a seat and play something for us and he sat down in the grass with me and my friends , took out the violin and jammed like a crazy man for about five or six minutes !! He apologized and said that he had get going because he had something going on, and he headed back down the hill, it wasn’t until about an hour later that I realized who he was when he came out on stage to play with the Band!!!

It's sad to read almost every month now that a band member of rock groups from the 60's and 70's, my era, has died. Most all of them have lived rough lives back then..drugs and alcohol mostly. What's worse is reading that the last surviving member of a popular band has died...that generation is just gradually fading away. Today's kids just don't know what real rock and roll music is all about and when it all started.
Now its mostly electronic no few instruments.
