Their early work was a little too... New Wave for my taste.

But when Sports came out in '83, they really came into their own, commercially and artistically.

The whole album has a clear, crisp sound and a new sheen of consumate professionalism that really gives their songs a big boost.

It's been compared to Elvis Costello, but I think Huey has a far more bitter, cynical sense of humor.

In '87, Huey released Fore, Their most accomplished album.

I think their undisputed masterpiece is "Hip To Be Square."

A song so catchy, that most people probably don't listen to the lyrics... But they should.

Because it's not just about the pleasures of conformity, and the importance of friends, but also a personal statement about the band itself.

@Sidewinder They don't sound very new wavy to me. Huey Lewis is a far better singer than Elvis Costello.

@HairbrushDiva I was quoting a line from the film, American Psycho.

But movie references aside, I do like some of their songs.

I Want A New Drug, The Power of Love, Stuck with you and Hip To Be Square are some of my favorites.

@Sidewinder I think "Stuck With You" is their best from what I've heard. "If This Is It" isn't bad either.

@HairbrushDiva Huey Lewis also did the song "Once Upon a Time in New York City" for the 1988 Disney film, Oliver and Company.

@Sidewinder I haven't seen that movie or heard that song.
