My Spotify top picks for 2023 were weird this year

I used to listen to a lot of Metallica in high school, but I stopped after the Black album. This year I decided to catch up on the albums they've released since I fell off. To my surprise, I'm kind of into it. The new album was the catalyst.

But then Dua Lipa as number 2? Wow, there's a jump! I could listen to Levitate pretty much forever and never get sick of it.

Lords of Acid was a recommendation from @JustGoneNow, and I found myself playing it any time I was in a rebellious mood. It's like a way to feel a little naughty without actually doing anything bad. Probably wannabe music for me. 😆

Finger Eleven? What the heck? I think I played them maybe three times all year. That is just a weird one. I have no idea how they even made the list.

Diamondhead was a big influence on Metallica, so in my Metallica revisit, I went back to them a bunch.

Interesting that there were no big feminist artists on there like I had last year. I guess for me 2023 was my year to feel like a rebel... but also to listen to Dual Lipa? I don't know, I guess I'm complicated.

id rather just listen to the golden oldies station

@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout That works. Are there "golden oldies" stations still left around?

I listen to the '80s stations a bunch, but I would never call them "oldies" because to me that means '50s music. The '80s station reminds me during their intros that they play music that, "As your mother used to call it, 'that noise.'" As a GenXer, I get nostalgic about being rebellious. It was, like, our thing or whatever.
