John Lennons only Number 1 hit in the US

On this day - 16 November - in 1974, "What ever gets you through the night" topped the Billboard 100, Cashbox and Record World charts.
Elton John co contributed with harmonies and piano on the recording.

John said he'd do a live appearance with Elton if the song went to #1. Which he did, at Madison Square Garden, in NYC. I think he even sang "I Saw Her Standing There," a Paul song. Turned out to be John's last live performance.馃槩

@graphite a bunch of people I knew were there. I can't imagine what that was like.
Interesting, thanks Gusman 馃憤
On a personal note, since a young age I have always liked the Beatles being exposed to them when I was about 7 . Lennon never appealed to me despite his great music. A while back I heard a very detailed podcast series on the Beatles and since then my admiration to Paul McCartney has also dropped.
@Ghostinthemachine John did what he wanted without caring about anyone else besides himself and Yoko.
Paul was a control freak.
That doesn't belittle their musical talents and genius or the Beatles' enormous influence on modern music
@BridgeOvertroubledWaters Thank you for the insight
My pleasure @Ghostinthemachine
