Those are the timing of the notes.

@Jenny1234 No,they refer to the distances between the notes. The intervals between notes in the Major scale. E.g Whole tone between the first and second notes,Whole tone between the second and third notes,Half tone between third and fourth notes..etc.

@Entwistle but it doesn’t say “tone”. It could also refer to half and whole notes that last for two and four counts respectively

@Jenny1234 Whole and half refer to the intervals between the tones to be played.
C to D is a step of one whole tone,E to F is a step of Half a tone.
That's all it is.
Nothing more complex than that.
Google it if you still can't grasp it.
