@summerwind A pretty song, well written.

OldBrit · 61-69, M
While my guitar gently weeps - just their best song IMHO
Sidewinder · 36-40, M
@OldBrit I liked Jeff Healey's rendition the best.
OldBrit · 61-69, M
@Sidewinder his is good. Peter Frampton did a super rendition too.
ronisme1 · 61-69, M
@OldBrit proves how great the song is, so many great versions
WelshLovely · 46-50, F
I've Just Seen A Face - I absolutely love it, simplistically beautiful!
albionfan · M
@WelshLovely My choice would be The Long and Winding Road
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@WelshLovely Nice. Short 'n' sweet.
MissingLink · 51-55, M
In My Life, always chokes me up for some reason
@MissingLink One of my favorites too!
MissingLink · 51-55, M
@ElwoodBlues Just listened to it, all this beatle talk has got me listening to them today
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@MissingLink Respectable and the sign of a great song if it moves you so profoundly.
Theyitis · 36-40, M
My favorite is “Here Comes the Sun”.

Btw, I heard on the radio that at one point John Lennon wanted to switch the two sides of Abbey Road, which would have made “I Want You (She’s so Heavy)” the last track on the album, abrupt ending and all.

"Across The Universe"
This song means so very much to me, it resonates with me on a really personal level.
akindheart · 61-69, F
i love the Beatles up until the psychodelic stuff. Rubber Soul, Help, anything before the other stuff.
ServantOfTheGoddess · 61-69, M
Revolver is my favourite Beatles album, and this is my favourite track on it. So trippy 😍

@ServantOfTheGoddess Yeah, like it.

They both remind me of listening to vinyl with my mom when I was very young.
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@Starcrossed Nice. it's great how music can achieve that, along with fragrances, which can transport me back to a life event with swift precision.

Difficult to pick a favorite, but I like this one, a clip from "A Hard Days Night". There is an aura of innocence about it , although anyone who knows of their antics in Hamburg in the very early days will not be fooled - they were wilder than the Stones. It was Brian Epstein who transformed them into the mop-tops that mothers just might approve of going out with their daughters.....😀

Orpheus · 56-60, M
@SW-User Yeah, Epstein certainly did a sterling job with 'em! I was just checking out the flair of some of those transitional chords, by lending the melody an accompaniment not unbefitting of a seasoned songwriter. The songwriting experience they attained in Hamburg belied their tender age, aside from honing their stagecraft. They put the bloody work in for sure!
Side two of Abbey Road.
Howard Stern interviewed McCartney not too long ago. Paul’s claim was that he dated Yoko first and found her to be completely out of her mind. So as a joke he introduced her to John. And the rest we already know.
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@stratosranger Interesting. I think at this point, he sounds quite philosophical about the whole thing and has no reason to embellish his part in the sorry mess. he seemed quite honest about Yoko and respectful of her and John's relationship but it is obviously far from what he felt at the time. for who split the Beatles, he's probably right. When Howard stern was expressing his liking for Paul's song and how it was a jab at John, all I could think of was How D'ya Sleep At Night (ya c***)!
@Orpheus Stern is a kiss ass. His show used to be funny a thousand years ago. He is still a decent interviewer, but he will express any emotive that aligns with whoever he is interviewing to get a better interview out of them. And then later on he will trash them. This is the same Howard Stern who years ago mocked McCartney’s wife Linda for her horrible live singing and received a cease and desist order from playing it on the air from McCartney’s attorneys. But the day she died? He played it again. So yeah he’s just two faced and cares about nothing but himself.
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@stratosranger What a dog! How does HE sleep at night? i do recall the Linda McCartney backing vox though. Most unfortunate...not the sort of thing you'd want solo'd and dumped into the public domain...If it was today, Christ it'd be everywhere in 5 mins with little or no recourse to claw it back.
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
Beatles always left me cold. I remember the screaming when they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show and wondered what it was all about. I never cared for any of their music. I guess there is just no accounting for taste.
@hippyjoe1955 What are your favorite bands?
hippyjoe1955 · 61-69, M
@stratosranger tbh I really don't have a favorite band or even favorite musician. I can enjoy almost any music if done to my taste. That said I am a bit of a rebel and don't go for the big name bands
@hippyjoe1955 Very good

SO MANY.

I also love She's So Heavy, but I have to say some of my faves are:

Norwegian Wood
Here Comes The Sun
Dear Prudence
I'm Looking Through You
Mother Nature's Son
A Day In The Life
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@DearAmbellina2113 All great choices. I've just remembered that 'Something' is pretty high on my list and suspect after seeing your list that to have one favourite is an injustice. Maybe an albums worth of faves?!

The Long and Winding Road. I always thought of it and hummed to it when I travelled through the forest , sometimes troubled

2nd place would go too: "Come together".
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
I can’t really nail down one track as my favorite but prefer the era from Revolver on much more than the earlier material. I love the rawness of the original Let It Be album and something about the I’ve Got A Feeling track stands out for me.
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@BackyardShaman Yeah, i agree on the era but keep getting reminded that the majority of their earlier stuff was exemplary too, the experience they amassed while young really enabled them to shine so brightly and write prolifically, songs of a virtually peerless quality in such a limited time frame.
I've got a feeling is raw and it rocks. Good choice. It also reminds me of what a natural solid yet musically fluid McCartney can be...all while singing. No mean feat!
BackyardShaman · 61-69, M
@Orpheus on that particular track Paul’s influence from Otis Redding is very apparent.
helsbels · 26-30, F
Please Please Me and Oh Darling

But every time you listen to any song or album again you appreciate something else about it 😄
Rubber Soul was my 2nd least favourite along with Sgt Pepper but I listened to it recently and Girl and Michelle just blew me away
Ali788 · 51-55, M
@helsbels the beatles were an excellent band,my mum met them in the 60 in pereon
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@helsbels Nice. I've forgotten so many, that when replies crop up, I end up thinking God yeah! That's another great one, as I just thought with Michelle...I also spotted Eleanor Rigby and Dear Prudence while I was trawling you tube and thought the same.
eli1601 · 70-79, M

Musicman · 61-69, M
I like Paperback Writer. 😎

Adogslife · 61-69, M
There are too many to name. Here are a few upbeat ones that come to mind:

‘I Want to Hold Your Hand’

‘All My Loving’

‘Everybody’s Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey’

‘Day Tripper’

‘Back in the USSR’
Entwistle · 56-60, M
I love Paperback Writer and Rain. Great songs and fantastic bass playing by McCartney.
Overall though my fave Beatles song is Norwegian Wood.
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@Entwistle Nice. Yeah McCartney really pulls some clever melodic bass riffs out of the bag at times AND sings through some of 'em
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
I hate the Beatles, so none.
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
@Orpheus I'm not entirely sure I understand the question.
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@BarbossasHusband Sure. I mean is there a band or artist you would consider as having produced most, or if not, some of your favourite songs?
BarbossasHusband · 36-40, M
@Orpheus Elvis Presley, Tom Waits, Great Big Sea, Stan Rogers, Flogging Molly, Alice Cooper, Queen

Elvis being no1
JohnnyNoir · 56-60, M
Although it's not an official Beatles song, they do a tremendous version of Harrison's All Things Must Pass during the Get Back/Let It Be sessions
JSul3 · 70-79
Many 'likes' but my fav has always been I Feel Fine, simply because 'I'm in love with her.....'
That love has lasted 47 years and counting.

I like this one because of Paul's love for his first wife Linda.
This is one of my favorite of their songs. I so loved John…
my sister was equally crazy about Paul.

Orpheus · 56-60, M
@bijouxbroussard Yeah, it seems most girls at the time chose either John or Paul as their heartthrob. This is a pretty song and the arrangement of the harmonies truly belies their age They were very deserving of their elevated status even this early in their career.

uncalled4 · 56-60, M
I have the MFSL box. Opinions vary on its "smiley face" eq, but I kinda like it.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Orpheus Hitting the 1/4" tape warmed up the sound a bit. People do that--bounce a Pro Tools recording onto tape, and it usually makes a big difference.
Orpheus · 56-60, M
@uncalled4 Yeah, I've considered it myself in the past and to me, aside from the warmth, it does seem to make a difference to the overall cohesion of the sound. At the time I was considering it, I ran it past a few studio forum peeps and the general consensus from anyone who'd worked with tape on a daily basis and now used Pro Tools (or equivalent) was...'Are you mad?!! There's the price of tape, a reliable machine without extreme head wear there's the relap, the setting up, the parts failure and difficulty in replacement and the service costs. 'Get yourself a Universal Audio plugin which sounds as near as dammit to the real thing and save yourself the grief and the cash.' I took this as gospel and although I haven't purchased the UA plugins yet, I've heard good things. Pity, I do like tape though...it brings back fond memories but nostalgia is no sound reason for excessive outlay and potential grief.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
@Orpheus The plugins get very close, but not quite. What happens, in my experience, is that little bit of tape compression can really make a mix "hang together" better. Tracking and overdubbing on tape would be insane. Bouncing to tape is not. Oh, and then we played it back into Pro Tools--this way, we didn't limit our mastering studio options.
This one ... it's almost like a totally different band, it sounds ahead of its time, transcending even the "psychedelia" label, and I enjoy the minimalism and Eastern aspects of it

Compared to something more conventionally considered "psychedelic" like Sgt Pepper this is magnitudes better

Orpheus · 56-60, M
@BlueGreenGrey Totally agree! The reverse tape stuff is just so...blatantly outrageous too! Good call with the mono version also. I think the mono tracks sound better remaining in mono, as originally intended. Each time the stereo stuff is remixed, the recordings seem to degrade in punch as a trade off for increased bandwidth and somehow don't feel quite right to me.
uncalled4 · 56-60, M
It's between this and Hey Jude.

Orpheus · 56-60, M
@uncalled4 Yup, this and Hey Jude are both truly excellent songs. The just don't seem to have been able to avoid knocking out nothing less than world class songs at a breakneck pace! i like this stripped back version too. The quality of the songwriting holds up just as well in isolation.
