I love French Jazz from the 1930’s especially by Django Reinhardt and the Quintette du Hot Club De France. Reinhardt’s guitar playing is nothing short of genius considering he lost the use of two fingers on his left hand in his teens 🙂
BlueSkyKing · M
@Dlrannie You may dig some John Jorgenson. He played Django in a movie.

I loved Latin jazz as a teenager. When Willie Bobo used to appear at the "Lighthouse" in Hermosa Beach Ca. I, and a couple of friends would wear our black jeans and black turtlenecks and hang out near the entrance. Once, Willie came out for a smoke break he asked what song we wanted him to play. The only title I could remember was "Always There" (I was so nervous yet trying to be "Hip" about it. ) I thought I was a "Beatneck" that night.
bijouxbroussard · F
@Grateful4you I grew up with it, too. There was a jazz club over in the Mission where Pop used to take Mom sometimes. As a child, Pop took both me and Mom to dinner at a nearby restaurant. They’d seen Mongo Santamaria play the previous night before and told him how much they loved the performance. Mongo was eating there, too, and came over to our table.

@bijouxbroussard Nice! I bet you, mom and dad were thrilled that night. The great part of living close to beach areas a lot more varied cultural experiences. My first experience with the "beat" generation a coffeehouse called the "Insomniac" a wonderful way to people- watch the motley crews they attracted the West Coast version of Greenage Village N.Y. I guess.

Sing Sing Sing, Live from Carnegie Hall, by Benny Goodman.
That music gets the body dancing.
Another great piece from Bob Marley, Three Little Birds.
Helped me not to give up.

Ellington said "If it sounds good, it is good". Kurt Weill said there was only two types of music. Good and bad. My ears are always ready to be challenged and I’m so grateful for. the internet. Someone suggests and I hit YouTube.
I like various genres. Especially instrumentals. There are lots fine vocalists but a great tune stands up without.

A lot of what I love is now rooted in jazz... almost all funk, hip hop, soul music has its roots in there. Yes, I will recognize and see that, I am a servant to music. A lot of rock has roots in jazz, from where it bridged to blues. Of course the lines become blurred. It's why I think Prince is a very good introduction to someone young.

It's hard to say because one band hardly represents metal as there are so many sub genres
But when I say I like metal, I refer to bands like these.
Maudlin of the well - Ferocious weights
[media=https://youtu.be/Z7-BrK8yRqk]
Atrox - What crawls underneath
[media=https://youtu.be/aj4mpnhdu2g]
Mastodon - Mother Puncher
[media=https://youtu.be/mEd7VV9zjbc]
I like Jazz too 🙂

@caPnAhab Thank you. I was hoping a metal fan would share. My niece and sister love metal, but mostly I hear them listening to Alice In Chains. I was curious to see other examples.

@bijouxbroussard No worries! I think AIC are up there with the best! Love them too

Bijou, what an amazing piece to hear. Thank you and for this question. Personally, I enjoy so many styles. I would say from within rock mostly. A style i am particularly fond of is shoegaze. Because sometimes I just want to get lost in the fuzz.

Music is my favorite drug…genres aside..
If the conversation was around American music
John Coltrane - Impressions…
Would be my choice

A sample of Bach's Brandenburg concertos would be nice.
No one sings "Nessun Dorma" from Norma as wonderfully as Pavorotti.

You’ve such good taste in music. I really hate how insipid and noisy some Bollywood songs are…too many Pakistani influences on it.
Carnatic is southern classical, that too specific to only one southern state. It’s vocally tougher than Hindustani (Indian) classical music (which was influenced by Persian n Afghan music after mughal invasions)
If you have any particular interest in one of the instruments(drum, string, or percussion) then I’ll suggest a few videos that’s really worth a listen.

Beautiful music that's so relaxing to listen to. Thank you for sharing it.

I'd go as far as calling this singer/songwriter, with socially conscious lyrics pointed squarely at boomers. Anyone who appreciates great songcraft will be impressed.

@uncalled4 The song craft is indeed impressive, even as it takes aim right between the eyes of my generation. You always find something cool and thought-provoking. 😊

@bijouxbroussard There's a bumper crop of great songs on that album. I'll send you some more from time to time.
I'm actually overdubbing drums on a song in the studio next weekend that is one of the strongest compositions I've even been involved with. It's tricky because it's in cut time(4/4), then he throws in what I think is a bar of 3/8 and back to 4/4 again. It's so moving. I may not be able to resist getting misty in spots.

@bijouxbroussard When I try to make something serious I use my keyboard. But I also have an acoustic guitar and a barely functional electric guitar from college haha.

@bijouxbroussard also you might like this genre. Not many people know about Palo music.. which has strong African roots. It's used in Dominican Vudú and santeria. It's so much fun to be in the festivals the songs just make you want to dance. [media=https://youtu.be/DQyx6hhCVZs]
