@Elessar Oh I know. I remember the Sochi Olympics "gay ban" fiasco which originated on a random Canadian travel blog and everyone from the CBC to American major networks just parroted it verbatim. Everyone assumed everyone else had fact checked it...or so the story goes. Then again in North America you will never face consequences for printing fiction about certain countries like Russia.

@PicturesOfABetterTomorrow Thankfully I've either completely forgot about that or didn't register at the time. But yeah, so long as there's a gullible half of the population that will believe whatever nonsensical clickbaity headline we're condemned to this circus of stupidity I guess.

@Elessar They were claiming any gay people who attended the Olympics in Sochi would be snatched off the streets and disappeared like it was Pinochet's Chile and they made a big deal of being "concerned" for the safety of LGBT athletes. Turns out the actual law basically states you can get fined if you hand out LGBT literature at an event where minors are present. Still kind of shitty but nowhere near as dramatic.
