Well, look down yonder, Gabriel
Put your feet on the land and the sea
But Gabriel, don't you blow that trumpet
Until you hear from me

That's so strong it makes me cry

@helenS I have been a Johnny fan from the first time I could hold a guitar. It tore me up when I heard he had passed.
I was in a hard rock band and was playing out that weekend and someone actually asked the bar tender to see if we knew any Cash songs to play in memory of him.
Well... being a huge fan we had played around with a few songs during breaks and what not.
So we did Folsom prison blues and I sang it. First time I had sang in front of a crowd.
Got a standing ovation.
Looking back, what a privilege it was to pay my respects to a man that had so much influence on me in that way.
Never forgotten.

@Dainbramadge I saw him at Lolapalooza in the 90's

@JimboSaturn I would have killed to be able to see him live.
How did he sound??? Was he a big hit with the crowd?
JimboSaturn51-55, M
@Dainbramadge He was on this side stage, not the main stage and it was during the day. He sounded awesome, although I was kinda drunk and don't remember 100% :P

@Dainbramadge I can't really connect to American country music, but this man kills me each time I listen to that voice. Those songs that I know are a part of his late, Christian work.

@JimboSaturn Isn't it cool that someone actually thought to put him in that veneiw?
Dainbramadge56-60, M
@helenS Johnny definitely left his mark for sure.

@Dainbramadge I think the grunge scene loved him because his music is so pure and really like you said, the Heavy Metal of Country.
