@Bushranger thanks for that interpretation. Reading this kind of literature makes me feel so dumb but the stories are gold.

@DarkSideoftheMoon Interpretations are personal. What I get out of a story may not be the same as you. But you shouldn't feel dumb if you don't get the idea first up. There's a couple of his stories that I needed a lot of help understanding, "The Bush Undertaker" was one of them. There's quite a bit going on in that story, even though it is superficially very simple.

It's hard going, but worth it in the end. Took me at least half a dozen readings before I really got my head around it. It was also made into a couple of movies, the first one in 1919.
