Personally I use both. I use headphones when I'm on my computer, and earbuds when I'm not. I'd prefer headphones, but they tend to fall off my head when I move around.
I have both... earbuds for talking on the phone and music listening, then sound deadening earphones for when i'm mowing (they have bluetooth which work amazingly well!)
