Who is your greatest singer songwriter?

I’m going Mr John Lennon with strong support form Mr Paul McCartney.

I could have listed hundreds, but I think Lennon & McCartney are very strong contenders. Their music & especially Lennons, ‘Imagine’, ‘Instant Karma’.. No doubt many different opinions will be shared, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, Bob Marley... to name but a few..

I just read in Sound Pictures, a biography of George Martin by Kenneth Womack (2018), about the creation and recording of "Strawberry Fields Forever". Sir Paul was the much more creative Beatle but John Lennon gets my vote!

@hunkalove will definitely check that biography out! It might be obvious, but Im a huge Beatles fan..

@Picklebobble2 Some classic names there, Sir.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
@InquisitiveMind Yeah they wrote some great stuff between them.

Jacques Brel (1929 — 1978), the greatest singer-songwriter since François Villon (1431 — 1463).

@helenS I will investigate those guys as certainly can’t claim to know them. Love the eclectic mix tis has thrown up.

@InquisitiveMind You'll probably know the song "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks ("We had joy we had fun...")? That's a trivialized version of a Jacques Brel song ("Le moribond"). Brel's songs are in French, he is Belgian.
InquisitiveMind · 46-50, M
@helenS This will be quite the new horizon.

Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Joni Mitchell
InquisitiveMind · 46-50, M
@SW-User no arguments with any of those, Joni Mitchell has written amazing lyrics & her voice captivating!
I'm going to have to go with Derek Sanders
Nimbus · M
Leonard Cohen or Paul Simon.
I can't decide.

Layne Staley and Jerry Cantrell. Their harmonies will always stand as the greatest.
InquisitiveMind · 46-50, M
@SpiralStaircase I need to check them out, Apple Music search I thinks. Get them on the play list.

I'd put Paul Simon, Neil Young, and Jim Croce up there, too.

@uncalled4 Totally agree with Paul Simon! One of my all time favourites, especially with Art as well.
