Are you a music pretender?

I've never really liked top 40 music for a long time now. These days it's all the same regenerated electronic music. It has no soul or meaning and lately all the music is about people feeling sorry for themselves.

That all aside, I would genuinely like to know if people actually like today's music? I think younger people are peer pressured into 'enjoying it' when deep down you know it's horrible and deeply shallow.

Do you have older music you prefer to listen to without others knowing for fear of being outcast?

@PDXNative1986 That fine if you genuinely enjoy your pick in music. I know I do. I more about seeing if people genuinely enjoy today's music or if they just follow the mob.

@Laughman I don't listen to whatever's mainstream today. I stopped listening to the radio a long time ago. I don't know what the kids like or what's trendy. I tuned out in favor of sites like Pandora and Last.fm a long time ago. I'm not on top of it but I can honestly tell you New Stuff that's decent is still being made it's just gone underground.

I still occasionally like a Celebrity or pop music but my taste has largely been determined by what I already like.

The Top40 radio and me typically disagree because rap music is popular and I just don't give any fucks about rap or country. Maybe Old school sometimes but I really don't enjoy it.

As a fan of industrial and EBM music it takes more work to find music I like than just listening to the radio because that stuff NEVER gets on the radio.

@PDXNative1986 there is actually some good country music. I like Garth Brooks and Alan Jackson etc. I think a lot of ppl write them off as they are in the country genre.
