Are you a music pretender?

I've never really liked top 40 music for a long time now. These days it's all the same regenerated electronic music. It has no soul or meaning and lately all the music is about people feeling sorry for themselves.

That all aside, I would genuinely like to know if people actually like today's music? I think younger people are peer pressured into 'enjoying it' when deep down you know it's horrible and deeply shallow.

Do you have older music you prefer to listen to without others knowing for fear of being outcast?
I still have a deep Emo place in my heart for The Cure but you had better not tell anyone. Got it! lol
@DarkHeaven that's a long time in the hospital.

@DarkHeaven my greatest achievement today!
@Laughman Well then. Glad I helped! 🖤

@Laughman this is close to perfection for me. I love playing this on guitar and I could listen to the haunting sound of this song all day.
No I don't pretend for anyone anymore. I have no pretenses and It feels really good to be honest and vulnerable. There's so many bands I enjoy that people would think I was unmanly or feminine for being into and I don't give any fucks at all. I
think it's sad the only song by wilson phillips anyone remembers is Hold on.
I love
Impulsive.

Just because I like that kind of soft rock doesn't mean I don't occasionally like hard rock and metal. my taste is all over the map.

I like what i like and don't care what others think. Mostly it is older music from when the words of the lyrics made sentences that make sense and i can relate to them.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@SAandME songs I guess:) I mean feel free to quote lyrics if you desire.
SAandME · 56-60, M
@Laughman Cripes could be a long night. ok i will just list artists with whom i like the majority of their songs.

@Laughman Songs and lyrics i could be posting for days but the obvious ones are falling in/out of love, so ones like these.

Many a tear have to fall
But it's all in the game
All in the wonderful game
That we know as love

You have words with him
And your future's looking dim
But these things
Your hearts can rise above

Once in a while he will call
But it's all in the game
Soon he'll be there at your side
With a sweet bouquet

And he'll kiss your lips
And caress your waiting fingertips
And your hearts will fly
Away

There is more music being created than ever before - plenty of it just as good as what I listened to in younger days. I'm always hearing something new and delicious.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@hlpflwthat have you got an example?

@Laughman Here is one I discovered this week on youtube. There are a lot of people listening to new music that will never see The Top 40 - and wouldn't have seen it when I was young. We're no longer dependent on radio to explore for us :)

I can listen to almost anything, but I tend to listen to bands like Queens of the Stone Age, Royal Blood, Slipknot, The Offspring, and stuff like that.
@AnInfamousDerka Slipknot's good but most of the other stuffs not hard enough for me. 🖤
AnInfamousDerka · 26-30, M
@DarkHeaven I can listen to and enjoy stuff that's harder, but it's not something that would make it onto a playlist of my choosing, if that makes any sense.
@AnInfamousDerka I get ya. 🖤
Different strokes for different folks.
I have eclectic taste in music and I really don't give a shit what the haters have to say. If you're gonna judge me based on my musical taste all I have to say is fuck you.

I'm not going to be shamed. This is my feeling sorry for liking what I like ----> :O

0 fucks given.

Sorry Not sorry. My ears enjoy this stuff. Oh woe is me, how dare my ears like pop music.
@Laughman Some country is ok. I mean I like the dixie chicks.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@BetweenKittensandRiots I find the only country artists that make it have to change their style to more pop than country.

How do you put a video in?
@Laughman copy the URL from the YouTube and past in the YouTube box that you use for pics.

@DarkHeaven ooo..indeed you are wise... thanks!
@Laughman 🖤

I like older music. There is also new non electric music I like, It’s never going to be heard on pop radio or make the top 40 but it’s out there.
@EniaE I like the electric music. I Fucking <3 Synthesiers.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@BetweenKittensandRiots push it - salt n pepper?
Laughman · 46-50, M
@Laughman oh the theme from Beverly Hills cop??
Laughman · 46-50, M
However if there is one thing I have learnt from this post, is that it's bloody hard to keep track off the replies and get back to everyone!
I have never let anyone shame me out of listening to music I liked, whether it was classical, rap/hip-hop, Greek folk music or Patsy Cline.
Laughman · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard I'm pretty much the same. My music goes from U2, Neil Young, cat Stevens, traveling wilburies, etc. I actually find I use that music to connect with memories.
@Laughman I’ve been a Cat Stevens fan since high school...

Laughman · 46-50, M
@bijouxbroussard there is something about his voice that I find incredibly relaxing.
Laughman · 46-50, M
Who knows..at the end of all this it might just be my taste in music that's all messed up 🙄
