I have a piano

My dad has bequeathed my mum's old piano to my son. His dad doesn't want it at theirs. I had no idea how to move it. But a friend suggested another friend who has a big van.

I'd gone with the kids to see dad yesterday. The van and three guys turn up in pouring rain. But after some discussion a route out was determined. Out the patio doors round the side etc. Couple of steps to negotiate.

In hardly any time after a makeshift ramp was "knocked up" it was securely in the van. Four very out of breath guys my boyfriend having been called up to help too. My son seemed to foreman.

Back at mine the rain was heavier. I wanted it in the lounge. Head scratching and discussing it couldn't turn in the hall they thought but they got it there in the end with millimeters to spare. They had to go past half through the door into the kitchen and back in to the living room. Which meant all the sofa was moved to one side then back again 😂

My son tells me it needs tuning which is next task to address.

Maybe I should learn now it's in my living room. 😂

@AngelaR80, that is so supportive of you. I am glad that your friend's friends were able to move it carefully and with millimeters to spare. Is it an "upright" piano or baby grand style (one being a bit of a "space saver" in the living room...)?

The important thing is that you supported your son. Hopefully he will play it. Lessons can be expensive, but its amazing the help available today on the internet to help one learn an instrument.

Would you be interested in learning as well?

@VeronicaJane it's a small upright.
@AngelaR80 great - apartment sized :-)

@VeronicaJane yep any bigger no way would it have been coming on here 😂😂
Piano's are fun to play. Easy to learn since you have all the octaves right there. Ignore the black keys for the moment, they are all the sharps and flats, try the easy training exercises with whole notes. A world of fun awaits.
They sure are heavy instruments. We see them for free on Marketplace all the time.

I would love to carry on learning. I had lessons as a kid but messed around a lot and eventually gave up.

When I was young my grandma had a piano which was rarely if ever used. When she was moving they couldn't find anyone who wanted it so it was broken up. Such a waste.
