What a brilliant morning

My son has been learning to play piano for some time now. But he'd told me he really wanted an electric guitar. He loves Yungblud, Sam Fender etc. With Christmas coming so got my Dad and brother to chip in. But I know nothing about guitars.

A friend on here offered to help. We drove up to meet him this morning. The shop was full of guitars. This friend was brilliant asking him what he liked and wanted. Then getting a couple in his hands. Discussing about necks and other stuff I've no idea. But he guided my son back to a green one he liked. He reckoned one of the best around what I had money for. Then helped explaining amps and stuff.

He helped get a deal including a case, cable, picks and strings! We then popped back to his house where he set the guitar with new strings to suit my son. My son hasn't stopped smiling. The icing on the cake was then hearing his guitar tried out by someone who can really play through his amp to test it all out.

He asks me about music I like. In truth it's never been a thing but my mum gave me a Walkman when I was a kid with her old tapes. I mention Supertramp Crime of the Century. He plays that through on the new guitar. I was blown away.

Oh to be so talented. I hope my son gets like that. It's sitting in my room now until Christmas.

I am so happy for your son and you. I have played guitar for a number of decades. Taught myself at around age 20 or so, and how to read and write music. But in the beginning it was classical guitar, then flamenco, eventually rock and jazz. At this point, I own a dozen guitars: 2 clasdical guitars and 10 electrics. I play every day after work for 1-2 hrs. Most rewarding part of the day. I wish your son the fufillment and joy I get from the instrument! If there is anything, like questions & advice re music or instruments, be glad to help!

:)

You're such a great loving mom. God bless you. And your son and whole family. It really touched my heart and made me so happy when I read that your son couldn't stop smiling. That's so great. Thank you for being a great mom to your son.

Guitar is a gorgeous instrument. Fully portable too. I hope he has as much fun on his musical journey as I’ve had. So many musical genres, so many heroes to inspire him. What an exciting time!
I’m happy to advise on anything guitar, so feel free to ask whatever you like x

There are so many peripherals he may want for his guitar. My grandson is really into it, is at music college, and has so many different add on gadgets. He also makes his own instruments. It is a great hobby.

Great song. I bought a harmonica just for Crimes of the Century.
There are some wonderful guitars out there.
Practice is the key. He will love it.

It sounds like you had a great morning.
Great choice of album from your Walkman days, one of my favorites too.

My mom wanted me to play the piano, was taking lessons. A friend loaned me a guitar. Spent a lot time with that guitar. I play the keyboard too.

So what did he get? The two most popular guitars out there is the Fender Stratocaster and the Gibson Les Paul. The Fender is definitely the cheaper of the two.
@Musicman oh man, me too! Music has always been my heart.
@Musicman Boy, would I love to hear you play. I hope you still do.

@LadyGrace Sadly I don't. This past winter I just sold the guitar in the picture. I have considered buying another one, but it would take finding a couple of people to play with. Playing alone just isn't exciting.
