To all the SW guitar players.

Do you think an antique American made Fender Stratocaster in a factory tweed case that is in new condition with the factory strings still on it would sell quickly? It is in new condition with no scratches. How much do you think it would sell for?

It depends on its provenance, was it privately owned by a celebrity guitarist, or just some random non known person, as well as its date of manufacture and serial number.

@NativePortlander1970 It's my guitar. I am considering selling it. I bought it new in the mid 90's.
@Musicman It was brand new in the mid 90's, just manufactured?
Musicman · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 It was manufactured in the early 90's.
@Musicman That makes it roughly barely 30 years old, quite a few decades off from being considered an antique, a classic, yes, but not an antique. What did you pay for it new, and how much have you played it, any fret wear or pick scratches?
Musicman · 61-69, M
@NativePortlander1970 $750. I have only played it a few times. It still has the original factory strings on it and no scratches or fret wear. It literally looks new.
@Musicman $750 would make it a basic factory made model, with case I doubt if Guitar Center would offer more than $300, $400 at most, a pawn shop even less.

@NativePortlander1970 It's an American made which made it top of the line in it's day. I was thinking $2k plus.
@Musicman Not even close, unless it has valuable provenance, devaluation won't make it worth even what you paid for it.

@NativePortlander1970 You may be right. From looking at the others I may have to settle for $1400. ☹️
@Musicman I am so very sorry to make you sad :( You could always try to auction it on ebay or facebook market place and try to get at least what you paid for it.

@NativePortlander1970 I did that on eBay today. It is what it is. 🤷‍♂️ I had hoped with time and inflation the value would have increased more, but so be it. I am definitely not going to give it away or sell it for what I paid for it.

@Musicman

Sell it to someone who will actually play the thing ...

Dont think about the money part , a guitar is meant to be played , not as an exhibition piece ..

@BobbyMoeven That would make me very happy 🙂
