I used to only play Kramer guitars.
I'm not sure if it was because they were so much better or because they weren't as popular as others.
They are still a company but Gibson bought them out a while ago and I see their prices are insane now.
I recently bought a Jackson off Amazon and I really like it.
With most guitars I have bought in the past the first thing I would have to do, right out of the box, was a neck job to lower the action.
But the Jackson came already slammed. The action is great and the pickup's are super hot.
I have also been playing a friend's Schecter.
They are comparable in price to other popular brands but they seem to really play well.
The one I have been playing has active pickups, which normally I avoid just because of the hassle of changing batteries at the worst possible times, but it has a real smooth crunch when distorted.
The action on it is pretty respectable as well.
I was just at his house last night for a jam session with a few other guitar players and the Schecter covered all the bases that I needed. I was playing through a Randel half stack and the only adjustments I was making was with the guitar knobs. We were playing metal, country and blues and the Schecter held up to it's expectations.
I would say that you really can't go wrong with a Jackson.
