Zombie Dream Realm

I had one of those dreams that feel more like a movie than sleep. A whole world unfolded... strange, dangerous, and yet vivid enough that waking up felt like being thrown out of a story halfway through.

The dream started with an enchanted newspaper, covered in runes and spells, the only way to enter another realm. Someone from the human world had crossed into it long ago, and I was their descendant. In this new world, a zombie outbreak was foretold, and I had the strange ability to glimpse moments of the future before they unfolded.

We prepared for the outbreak with military-style training, but everything shifted when I was banished from the camp. Swept away by the ocean, I ended up wandering with a handful of other exiles. Our path took us through mountains, where we fought monsters just to keep moving, only to cross paths with dark magic users who cast spells over us. I was suddenly thrown back to Earth. Five days passed here, but when I found a way back into that world, twenty years had gone by.

Everyone I knew before was gone. What was left was me, my fractured knowledge of the future, and a life that felt lonely but strangely peaceful. That peace didn't last... the zombies broke through the gate again, throwing me back into chaos.

When I woke up, I carried the weight of it with me. Like I had lived a whole other lifetime overnight, only to lose it all by opening my eyes. I felt both lost and strangely full, like I had borrowed someone else's story and left pieces of myself inside it.

I love remembering a dream that is vivid and full of story. This one seems to borrow from various stories I imagine you've read or watched, but your nighttime imagination made it very much your own, and a gripping story in itself. As always, your writing is beautifully clear and evocative.

@ThePatientAnarchist Thank you so much, that means a lot. I think you're right.... bits and pieces of stories I've seen probably slipped into the dream, but it felt so vivid it almost became its own world. Waking up from it was strange, like leaving behind a life I accidentally lived.
