Just in case you found yourself there. They don't have to be a narcissist to display this pattern

Everyday people behave in this manner all the time.

My therapist met my mother once and she insisted that she was a narcissist, because of how she treated me even in front of people. My therapist had to switch the conversation my mother was insisting to push on me. Of course, she didn't know that was my therapist.

After a good while, my therapist changed her mind and told me it was more likely bpd.

I always think about that shift in her views. If professionals who have had decades of training are willing to admit the boundaries and the changing nature of their expertise, we all should too.

My mother has a lot of unresolved trauma and it directed many of her choices. I do want to be in a place mentally where I can forgive her one day.

Humans are more complex than to fit in neatly under any labels, really. Abuse or not abuse, they are complex. Much of it has nothing to do with us alone..or even them alone.

My therapist and I had a discussion about narcissism.
One of the last things I said on the topic is that I believe that everyone displays narcissistic tendencies from time to time.

Self is something none of us can escape and ingrained survival instincts I believe make it impossible for any of us not to exhibit these tendencies.
