I kinda don't get that. I thought there was enough awareness about the health complications of tobacco to start by keeping kids away from it

@ImperialAerosolKidFromEP Cigarette advertising was big money back then. The Flintstones was originally a prime time show and, back in the day characters from shows did sponsors’ endorsements during broadcast (even animated characters).

I think all TV commercials for cigs were done by 1971 or so. I don't remember any, but then again I was 4.

@uncalled4 you are correct, according to Wikipedia, the US government ban on tobacco advertising took effect January 2, 1971.
