My favorite Audible books and their performers
1. The Civil War: A Narrative - Shelby Foote -- performed by Grover Gardner -- oh that voice, crisp, low but not too low and tastefully animated. He's a pro who has a impressive range from King's The Stand to such classic history works like this, it's nice and long at 155 hours, but i'm following along at a speed of 1.5x
2. The Power Broker: Robert Moses and the Fall of New York -- Robert Caro -- performed by Robertson Dean -- as with all i mention here the voice is a pure pleasure to listen to, Mr. Dean has more of a sober aural aura.
3. Charlton Griffin doing Gibbon's The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire and Plutarch's Parallel Lives, Griffin has a magisterial commanding voice, quite noble and lofty sounding.
4. Clarissa with a full cast, on the Naxos label, i don't feel like writing all the names but it's a pristine experience, this is a LONG novel that runs for 102 hours.
5. The Arkangel Shakespeare -- each play i've listened to has been pure gold, very immersive, and brings the text to life. If i had to highlight one it would be Two Gentlemen of Verona, it's got this cool jazzy lounge music that combines most smoothly and breathlessly with that love crazy, 16th century flowery dialogue.
6. A Promised Land & Becoming by the former POTUS and 1st lady, i'm glad i have them, they were a class act, the last bright promising portion of time for the USA imho
But that is just what strikes my fancy after years of just scratching the surface of Audible's world class catalogue. More faves are around the corner for me, ... what are some of your favorite audiobooks, which voices are the kind you could listen to for weeks and weeks?
